About

Levana LaBelle is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bellbrae, Victoria who works within the liminal spaces found in nature. LaBelle reflects upon our ancestral connection to the mystical elements of nature through ritual, which is expressed within her works in the form of intuitive movement; much like a dance embodied in sacred practice. Inspired by the romanticist movement, LaBelle uses the juxtaposition between light and dark to reflect this liminality which so often describe the unseen forces of nature. Within her works is a tactility and emotional resonance that requires the viewer to be immersed within her landscapes and compels us to connect with nature’s sentience through a conscious relationship with the land.

Story

Levana’s earliest memories of art come from her time spent sketching with her father and being shown the magic of creativity. Along her journey Levana began working as an art therapist and soon understood art to be a tool used for healing, not just of the soul but also of the land. She grew up surrounded by stories of the Fae, and her ancestral connections to the lands of Tir na Nog have always found her foraging amongst bushlands, laying amongst the riverbeds, transmuting earthly elements and fostering a 'oneness' with nature which can still be found within her works today. Levana considers the landscape as her pallet through which her paintings become physical manifestations of how she connects with the land in her everyday life.
